WINE DESCRIPTORS

ABOUT THE WINERY: MIDDLE EARTH
Nelson's wine roots were cultivated in the mid-1800s, when German settlers planted the areas first grape vines to produce wine. Our story starts more than 50 years ago here at the same property our family still lives at now. Four generations have and continue to work on our land. From beginnings as a Dairy farm producing milk for town supply, to where we are now. A producer of premium 100% sustainable wines.

OUR SOMELIER REVIEW
Pinot Gris or Pinot Grigio… its the same grape! So why does a winery choose one name versus the other?
Pinot Gris is what it’s called in France and Germany where they make a more complex, full body, intense wines with this grape, some even with potential for aging.
Italians use Pinot Grigio which is more common to see and is, usually, a very simple and savory wine.
With this in mind and their goal for the wine, wineries usually chose to use one name or the other.
Something they have in common, both styles are delicious!
The Middle Earth winery is located very close to the sea and sheltered by three mountain ranges. This special terrain gives to the wine an amazing complexity, with minerality, spices and white fruit flavors.
The acidity is bright and super refreshing and the less aging provides a silky mouth filing and outstanding long finish.
This wine has excitement and personality and is so savory that it goes perfect with spicy sushi, paella, curry, and even empanadas… I imagine spinach and goat cheese empanadas for start and an entree of roasted herbs chicken with arugula salad. Cheers!
CRITIC'S NOTES
Concentrated berry and plum aromas are potent. In the mouth, this blend of Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cab Franc is massive but also abrasive and narrowing due to fierce tannins. Giant raspberry and blackberry flavors include chocolate and coffee notes. It settles on the finish but remains scratchy out the back door.
